At SERVIZ, we see hundreds of leaking and dripping faucets every year. The problems range from broken faucet valves to worn-out faucet cartridges. Over time, these worn-out and broken faucet parts begin with a slow drip and eventually deteriorate into a full leaking faucet.
Some of the most common problems they face are...
Leaks. Obvious, yes, but faucet leaks aren't just annoying - they are costly. The EPA estimates that an average households leaks waste up to 10,000 gallons of water a year. That's enough water for 580 showers, costing an extra $100 in utilities annually.
Low water pressure. With all that water flowing through the faucet, mineral and residue buildup is inevitable. Over time, this can reduce water pressure, so that your faucet resembles a slow drip.
Rusting. If your faucet starts showing signs of rust, it's time to replace it. Although drinking water with rust does not pose a health risk, according to the EPA, it's best to get a new fixture.
If your kitchen or bathroom faucet exhibits any of the above symptoms, book a SERVIZ Plumbing Pro today.
Ever wondered what causes a leaky faucet? Below are a few contributing factors.
Broken or Damaged O-Ring. An O-ring is a pliable, rubbery gasket used to seal connections in pipes. If it becomes corroded or worn out, water can seep out near the handle, causing a leak. Luckily, O-rings are easy and inexpensive to replace.
Old Cartridges. A faucet cartridge is a valve that turns your faucet on and off, usually with an up/down motion, and adjusts the temperature by mixing the hot and cold water. Mineral buildups and sink remodels, which can knock loose sediment, can stop up the cartridge, causing leaks.
Worn Out Washers. Constant dripping is usually a sign of worn out washers. Washers are pressed against the valve seat every time the faucet is turned on. Over the course of a faucet's lifetime, that can be hundreds of thousands of times. Once they get worn down too much, that's when leaks occur. With that much wear and tear, it's no surprise that old, worn out washers are one of the primary causes of a leaky faucet.
